BUMBLEBEES - SUMMER 2023

We are so excited to welcome everyone back after Easter for what will be, for many of the class, their last term in primary school! Just like last term, Mrs Fisher will be joining us every morning before break; Mrs Harley will continue to be with us on a Wednesday morning; Mrs Walker is in class on a Thursday afternoon.

In English we are currently reading The Wolves of Willoughby Chase by Joan Aiken and after half term we will move on to Floodland by Marcus Sedgwick. In Maths we will use the remaining weeks before SATs to revise all the topics we have covered so far. After SATs we will have a chance to do some problem solving and extend the children's Maths knowledge before some of them move on the secondary school. Children will still be bringing home both Mental Maths Books and Grammar Books for homework each week. They are expected to complete sections A + B in their Mental Maths books and one page of their grammar book ready to be marked on Wednesday morning. We will also be sending home weekly spelling lists ready for a spelling test on Thursday. Please note children are bought only one Mental Maths and grammar book each year. Any lost books will need to be replaced by families.

In Science this term we will be learning about reproduction. After half term the children will be learning about evolution. We will be learning about Buddhism in R.E. focusing particularly on enlightenment. In History we will be learning about The Cold War and then after half term we will be looking at the history of human rights. Our Geography units focus on Africa and globalisation and in Art we will be exploring impressionism followed by contemporary art after half term. The class will continue learning Latin.

PE still takes place on a Thursday afternoon along with recorder. Please make sure the children come in PE kit to school and that their recorder and recorder book are both in school on this day.

We expect the children to read daily at home. Please ensure they have their books in school every day as we will be wanting to hear them read too.

During this term the children will be outside as much as possible. Therefore, it is essential that children have sunhats to wear at break and lunch time. These must be named.

A highlight of this term for many will be our residential trip to the Isle of Wight. Mrs Fisher and I are very excited to be accompanying the children on this trip and we look forward to all the fun we will have.

If you have any questions or concerns please do speak to me or email the office.
