Honeybees

We are so excited to welcome everyone back to school for the Summer Term, which for many of the children marks the beginning of their final term at school. There are very many exciting things to look forward to in this final term including the residential to the Isle of Wight, Sports Day and our summer production. Mrs Fisher will be continue to join us every morning while Mrs Walker will be joining us on a Thursday afternoon. Mr Baron will continue to support children in Honeybees this term.

In English we will  begin the term with The Wolves of Willoughby Chase by Joan Aiken. After half term we will be reading Floodland by Marcus Sedgwick. We expect the children to read daily at home and record this in their reading record. Please ensure children have their reading books in school every day as we will be wanting to hear them read too. In maths we will be focusing on a variety of topics as we revisit and revise our learning in preparation for SATs. Later in the term we will be taking part in reasoning and problem solving work and extending our maths learning before some of us move onto secondary school. Children will continue to bring home both Mental Maths Books and Grammar Books for homework each week. They are expected to complete sections A + B in their mental maths books and one page of their grammar book each week, ready to be marked on Wednesday morning. We will also be sending home weekly spelling lists ready for a spelling test on Thursday. Please note children are bought only on mental maths and grammar book each year; any lost books will need to be replaced by families.

In Science this term, we will be learning about reproduction and evolution. We will be learning about Buddhism in R.E. In History we will be learning about The Cold War followed by the history of human rights. Our geography learning will be about Africa and globalisation. In art we will be exploring impressionism followed by contemporary art later in the term. We will continue to work on our Latin.

As we live in an ever changing world, e-safety for families is very important and we recommend to parents to visit the www.thinkuknow.co.uk for any top tips and advice.

PE will take place on a Thursday afternoon. The children will need to come to school in a full PE kit with trainers, please refer to the school uniform policy for exact details.

The children will be continue to learn the recorder with Mrs Walker on a Thursday so please make sure their recorder and recorder book are both in school on this day. Please also make sure your child has time to practise during the week. It is really important that recorders and music are named!

During this term the children will be outside as much as possible which means they will be playing outside during playtime. It is essential that children have sunhats in school to wear at break and lunchtime. Children should continue to have waterproof coats, wellies and even waterproof trousers if there is even the small chance of rain. These must be named.

If you have any questions or concerns please do speak to me or email the office.
